8 Writing Traits Read Writing Models Chart p. 2
Ideas: The heart of the message and the details that tell about it. Example 1: I like winter. Winter is my favorite season. Winter is more fun than fall. Spring is okay. Summer is okay. Winter is better. Example 2: I like winter because of the snow. It’s fun to fall into fresh snow and make snow angels. I also like to sled down the hill in the park. Last year my friends and I built a snow fort and had snowball fights. I even like to shovel snow. Which example do you like better? Why?

9 Writing Traits Organization: The way ideas are organized, or put in order. Has a clear beginning, middle, and end. Example 1: I like to walk our dog, Max. Max is a small dog, but he is strong. On our walk this morning, he kept stopping to sniff everything. He loves to run, so I had to hold the leash tightly. When we got close to the house, he knew his breakfast was waiting. Example 2: Max liked playing catch. When I woke up this morning, my dog wanted to go out and play. I told him we would play catch after breakfast. Which example is easier to understand?
