7 Revising What are the steps in the writing process? Prewriting, drafting, revising Revising is to make changes that will make the writing clearer to the reader. Writers need to:  Add details to make ideas clearer and more interesting.  Delete details and ideas that are unimportant or do not belong.  Replace dull words with more interesting ones.  Rearrange sentences and sentence parts so the order makes sense.
