The Tensions between the Colonies and Great Britain led to Armed Conflict in 1775

3 The Birth of a Nation…..Almost
Delegates from all colonies except Georgia met at the First Continental Congress to discuss the Benefits of war vs. peace Colonies would stop all trade with Britain and Start training troops, including Georgia The colonies were not ready for Independence, but the steps were being taken to become a free country

4 Give me Liberty or Give me Death
The Colonists Drafted the Declaration of Rights to present to King George III The colonists did NOT want to separate but urged the king to fix the problems in the colonies Patrick Henry, and other leaders, would start to prepare the colonies for the idea of war and become patriots The Delegates would meet again in 7 months, but fighting would begin before then

5 Spy vs. Spy Spies on Both sides gained information about the other Armies Through Spies General Gage ordered the Weapons at concord Destroyed and The arrest of Samuel Adams and Jon Hancock The Sons of Liberty were prepared for such a plan

6 Blinded by the Lights Paul Revere and William Dawes would use a planned route to warn the colonies about troop movements Using Lanterns, Revere and Dawes would be able to Warn the colonists how the British were arriving When the British made their move Revere and Dawes Completed their Midnight Ride With the Help of Samuel Prescott warned concord of the attack and the Minutemen were ready for Action

7 The Shot heard Round the World
Captain John Parker and his militia were waiting for the British troops with their weapons drawn When the First Shot was fired 8 militia men were killed and Britain was able to destroy supplies at Concord before retreating at a bridge north of town 4000 Minutemen would arrive in Lexington and Concord to aid in the First battle of the Revolutionary war Patriots and Loyalists would be forced to pick their sides as the war began in the colonies

8 The Calm before the Storm
20,000 colonial troops began to move to Massachusetts and General Gage Moved British troops to Boston Benedict Arnold led the Patriot attack on Fort Ticonderoga and captured the British Artillery Shortly After, the Second Continental Congress met to Discuss Peace Efforts They also Organized a Continental Army led by George Washington and started to train them

9 Branching Out In hopes for peace the colonies sent the Olive Branch Petition to the king asking him to restore Harmony The King would reject the petition and punish the colonies with new Blockades and the Use of Hessians in the colonies The Colonial Army, under George Washington, would not be able to match up against the British Forces

10 Moral Victories The patriots capture Breed’s Hill and begin to fortify the area forcing Britain to have to fight uphill The Militia on top of Breed’s Hill defended the Hill with little ammunition and the British Would Retreat twice The British would Charge a third time and win back Bunker Hill but lose over 1000 troops The Colonial Militia proved they could fight with British Troops

11 More than a Feeling Colonel Henry Knox would Transport the much needed HEAVY ARTILARY to George Washington as he waited to capture Boston Washington moved his troops to Dorchester Heights and began o position troops on Nook’s Hill prepared to fight Seeing that he was surrounded, British General William Howe ordered his troops to retreat to Canada The patriots now held Boston and looked to turn to New York
