2 What will 4th grade be like?
What are you wondering about 4th grade? Write it on your card – on the lined side! As we talk about 4th grade, listen carefully – if I answer your question, write the answer on the other side of your card

5 REWARDS & CONSEQUENCES
Rewards include positive notes home, positive s/calls home, special privileges in the classroom CONSEQUENCES INCLUDE teacher conference, THINK ABOUT IT SHEET, PHONE CALL HOME, DISCIPLINARY REFERRAL Remember – we are all here to learn and have fun! Everyone’s best attitude contributes to a positive environment in which we all feel safe, respected and able to do our best!

When not in groups: Choose a working spot that helps you do your best Use each seat the right way If a spot is not working, move Take care of supplies – clean up! Ms. Melyan-bratton can move anyone at anytime if you do not follow the rules.

10 Morning Procedures – The Kickoff!
Walk into the room quietly Coats & backpacks hung up All notes for teacher/office in green BIN Make your lunch choice Pencils sharpened Write in your assignment pad Morning WORK!

11 Stations You will work independently or in a small group
You will have a list of assignments and activities that relate to a topic and must be done by a due date Unfinished station work is homework We do stations in math and la and sometimes in social studies Stations require responsibility – you are responsible to know what to do, how to do it, work quietly and without distraction and when to submit your work

12 Homework On a daily basis, unfinished classwork is homework and must be completed by the following school day. You will occasionally receive other homework assignments including projects. Incomplete homework will negatively affect your grade for the marking period. If work is missing, it will be marked as “missing” in genesis. Work will be accepted one day late for a lower grade. **Work will not be accepted more than one day late. **

13 Tests & quizzes Pop quizzes will be given – especially in your multiplication facts! Practice, practice, practice! You will have several days notice for tests, however, you should always be reviewing skills.

14 Absent…Now What? Your buddy will fill out a “While You Were OUT” form. WHEN YOU RETURN TO SCHOOL, SPEAK TO THE PERSON IN CHARGE OF THIS JOB FOR AN EXPLANATION. IF YOU HAVE ANY FURTHER QUESTIONS, Please speak with one of your teachers for an explanation of work. You have one day for each day you were absent to make up your work. For example, if you are absent on Monday and return to school on Tuesday, you will have until Wednesday to make up your work. I f you are absent on Monday and return on Wednesday, you have until Friday to make up your work. If you are out of the room for music lessons, speech, etc. you must complete the work that night.

15 Birthdays We love to celebrate birthdays!
You will have a special day in our class – birthday homework pass! Birthdays will not include any kind of food or goody bags Have a summer birthday? No problem! We will celebrate your half birthday! June – December, July – January, August - February

16 We Recycle! Paper including Notebook paper, Computer paper, Newspaper
Plastic Bottles & Aluminum Cans – All recycling goes in Blue Bin!

17 Emergency Drills Fire Drill Lock Down Lock In

18 Restroom Procedures Use in the morning before 8:25 a.m. and during lunch/recess. If you need to go during class, wait until independent work time. Raise your hand with your pointer finger. Put a check next to your name to indicate that you are out of the room. Only one boy and one girl may be at the restroom at once. Quickly and quietly return to your seat and continue working. Excessive use of the bathroom will result IN a parent contact to make sure you are okay.

19 Water Procedures Drink water in the morning before 8:25 a.m.
You may get a drink in the classroom without asking. You may go during independent work time only. Do not get up while someone is speaking! Walk quietly to the water fountain. One person at a time – no line. Drink on a count of “3-2-1 you’re done!” Quickly and quietly return to your seat and continue working. You may bring a water bottle to class as long as it does not become a distraction.

20 Questions & Answers Raise your hand quietly (unless you are told otherwise during a special activity) I will only call on quiet hands. When someone is called on, put your hand down and listen to what is being said. When someone is speaking, including Ms. Melyan-Bratton, keep your hand down. I will always ask if there are questions during a lesson. If you are afraid you will forget, you can quietly take out a piece of notebook paper and write down your question. Remember – you can be called on at any time. If Ms. Melyan-Bratton asks a question, be prepared to TRY to answer.

21 Pencils Sharpen 2-3 pencils in the morning before 8:25 a.m. or right before dismissal at the end of the day– do not sharpen pencils when Ms. Melyan- bratton is speaking – or when anyone is speaking. If your pencil breaks: Check with a teammate for another pencil. Put pencil in the “please sharpen me” cup and take one from the “sharp” cup

22 Paper Use specified notebook
On every assignment, your heading should be: FIRST & LAST Name / Code Number Date Subject (Not necessary for a workbook page/worksheet)

23 Dismissal Procedures – Touchdown!
Check your planner to make sure your assignments are written down. I will call you by bus to get packed up – get your mail and your backpack. Return to your seat Begin packing your backpack with necessary homework materials. Sharpen pencils for the next day. Read while you Wait for parent pick up/ bus number to be called then put chair on desk.
