2 Objectives- 4th Grade Today I will review computer vocabulary with

3 Browser -- Software used to navigate the Internet.
BOLD -- A style of text that makes a letter or word darker and thicker to stand out in a document.

4 CPU -- Central Processing Unit. The brain of the computer.
CURSOR --A moving indicator displayed on a computer monitor that shows a computer operator where the next action or operation will take place.

5 DELETE -- A key used to erase characters.
EDIT -- To make changes in a document or presentation. ENTER -- The key used to begin a new line in a word processor. FONT -- The shape and style of text.

6 GRAPHIC – Images or pictures that are created, edited, or published using a computer.
HIGHLIGHT -- To choose part of a document by clicking and dragging over it with the mouse to select the text.

7 HOME ROW -- Keys on the keyboard with fingers of the left hand are on A-S-D-F and fingers on the right hand on J-K-L-; Icons – Symbols or illustrations appearing on the computer screen that indicate program files or other computer functions.

8 INDENT -- To set the first line of a paragraph in from the margin in a word processing document.
LANDSCAPE -- The page setup that permits a document to be printed in a horizontal position.

9 LINE SPACING – The area between lines of text.
PASTE -- To insert the last information that was cut or copied into a document. PORTRAIT -- The default page setup that prints the document vertically.

10 PRINT -- To put what is on the computer screen on paper
PRINT -- To put what is on the computer screen on paper. It creates a paper copy of the document created on the computer. SAVE -- To store information on a disk, hard drive, flash drive, or CD for later use. SAVE AS -- To save a document with a new name or for the first time.

11 TEXT -- the written or printed material on a document.
WORD PROCESSING -- Using keyboarding skills to produce documents such as letters, reports, manuals, and newsletters. DATA: information RPM: Short for Revolutions Per Minute, RPM is used to help determine the access time on computer hard drives. RPM is a measurement of how many revolutions a computer's hard drive makes in a single minute.

12 Output Device: An output device is any device used to send data from a computer to another device or user. Examples include monitors, projectors, speakers, headphones and printers. Input Device: An input device is any hardware device that sends data to a computer, allowing you to control the computer. The most commonly used input devices on a computer are the keyboard and mouse.

13 Bit: A bit (short for binary digit) is the smallest unit of data in a computer and is the language for a computer, called Biometric Code. A bit has a single value, either 0 (off) or 1 (on). Computers are designed to store data and execute instructions in bit multiples called bytes. In computer systems, there are eight bits in a byte. 8 bits = 1 byte 1 billion bytes = Gigabyte (GB)

14 CD: is a compact disk which contains data
CD: is a compact disk which contains data. The name is an acronym which stands for "Compact Disc” CD’s can be used for music, installing software and or storage of data. CD-R & DVD-R: CD-R, originally named CD Write-Once (WO), and the DVD-R are blank CD’s and DVD’s on which data, including music and movies, can be permanently recorded only ONE TIME.
