9.  Learn how to organize and present data in maps using ArcMap software and ArcGIS Online.  Participate in a DNA barcoding lab experience ◦ characterize species of organisms based on a short DNA sequence. ◦ Get a scientific publication to your name  Qualifies as a college preparatory elective under the g subject requirement in the A-G list of approved courses.

20. Q Registration Step 4: “Add Selected Class”, and click SUBMIT Continue this process until you have selected BOTH “A” or “1” and “B” or “2” classes. Please click “Submit” only once, even if you get an error message. Check your schedule an hour later.

Q Registration Step 5: “Add Selected Course” Step 6: Select Alternates for electives or for classes that will be taken in summer school The right hand column is where your first choices go…in this case, the 1 st choice is Journalism and the alternate is Ceramics You can select alternate courses in case you do not get your first choice. First select those courses in the Add/Edit Requests mode. In the example to the left, Journalism 1, Journalism 2, Ceramics 1 and Ceramics 2 are already requested. Journalism is the FIRST choice, and Ceramics is the alternate. NOTE: DO NOT request the same alternate for more than one course. In the Add/Edit Requests mode, click the alternate course’s drop down menu in the “Alternate For” column, and select your first choice course. Click SUBMIT when done.

28.  All sophomores are encouraged to take the PSAT/NMSQT on October 19 th. They will be sold in the office at the end of September. Be sure to read the bulletin.  This will be a preview for you of the SAT. As an11th grader you will enter the competition for scholarships from National Merit Scholarship Corporation.  Additional benefits of the PSAT Exam: ◦ Connects students to colleges and universities across the country and to scholarship organizations. ◦ Prepares students for the new SAT and college and fuels practice recommendations on Khan Academy (free personalized and focused practice)! ◦ Matches students with AP courses that make the most of their academic strengths. AP classes can provide an edge in the college admission process, and an opportunity to earn college credit.
