Texas State Law: House Bill 5
Texas Education Code Section Minimum Attendance for Class Credit of Final Grade "A student in any grade level from kindergarten through grade 12 may not be given credit or a final grade for a class unless the student is in attendance for at least 90 percent of the days the class is offered." Students who fall below 90 percent attendance will receive an “LOC” on their semester report card, signifying the potential loss of credit. The implementation of this new requirement will be seen in the issuance of the end of semester report cards in May 2014. In addition to the potential loss of credit, dropping below 90 percent attendance may impact a student’s class ranking, grade point average and their eligibility to participate in extracurricular activities.
11
Attendance Research Starting in kindergarten, too many absences can cause children to fall behind in school. Missing 10% (or about 8 days) can make it harder to learn to read. Students can still fall behind if they miss just a day or two every few weeks. Repeatedly pulling your child out of school early results in loss of instruction. Absences affect the whole school as funding is determined by attendance percentages. Being late to school may lead to poor attendance. Good attendance will help children do well in high school, college, and at work. More info at attendanceworks.org
12
Attendance Thank you for helping us come in 2nd place overall last year. This year we are going for 1st! Campus Goal of 98% Attendance Attendance is taken at 10:00 am daily Parents must send a note the day the scholar returns to school. Please include the teacher’s name, date of absence(s), scholar’s full name and ID if known A Doctor’s note will be required after the 3rd consecutive absence and after 5 absences for the school year. Scholars will have 2 days for each day absent to make-up missed work for excused absences. Failure to complete work will result in a zero. Unexcused absences will result in zeroes for any missed work. 98%
