5. What’s important at enrolment?
GCSE
All applicants must complete a screener
Be assessed at level 2 during screening
Will be invited for an extended assessment

The English team will advise learners on the appropriate course (length and pace).

6. MATHS
What’s new?
We want to promote the broader benefits of maths to learners in other AoL e.g. economic, health, well-being, confidence, employment benefits
What’s changed?
2 session per week GCSE courses, one at Abraham Moss and one at Greenheys

7. What’s important at enrolment?
Language requirement :
Learners need to have a level of English that is equal to or higher than the level of Maths they are studying.
e.g. for E3 maths they will need to be E3 or above in English.

8. STEP
What’s New?
Step Towards Employment & Progression (STEP)…. a course for learners with learning difficulties and/or disabilities aged between 18 and 25
This one-year programme is designed to prepare learners for employment, supported employment, volunteering and participating in other community activities
What’s changed?
The JPP (Joint Partnership Project) has now finished and has been transformed into the STEP programme

9. What’s important at enrolment?
Enrolment for this course is through interview only.

10. ESOL
What’s new?
No new quals / type of classes programmed – 2nd year of additional qualifications, so these to be better embedded / delivered
ESOL work clubs are running at 2 centres and it is likely we will extend this to more centres through the year
What’s changed?
More mandated learners sent by JCP and at risk of losing benefits if fail to attend
More learner turnover – leave as they find a job/ are referred by advisors to work programme etc
Class times reduced by 30 minutes, enabling learners to have 1-1 tutorials

11. What’s important at enrolment?
Benefits are checked and people enrolled on appropriate course – must be on JSA / ESA WRAG to join ESOL for Job seekers, if not on JSA referred to Everyday English
Right to live & work in UK is confirmed – passport / residence permit/ work visa etc
Calm and clear communication with those with limited English – e.g. use gestures, props to explain / relate things to yourself (my name is… what’s your name?)

Work Clubs – drop-in sessions. Learners need some computer skills and to able to speak English clearly and confidently.

14. ICT
What’s new?
Nothing! We implemented a new programme structure in Sept 2013 and are keeping to that for another term, “starter” and “E3” packages run 3 times a year and Level 1 twice a year.
What’s changed?
Course titles – Computer Skills Introduction (instead of ABC); Computer Skills Moving On (instead of Internet & ). Why? See next slide….

15. What’s important at enrolment?
The introductory course is not just for people who haven’t used a computer/technology before. Many people are now using bits of technology but some of them struggle on a course – they can get more learning time with us if they start with the introductory course. They can always be fast-tracked if they are good.

16. Care, Community and Education: CCE
What’s new?
L1 Award Working with Children in Schools. This is a 20 week course which replaces the previous L1 Teaching Assistant course. Requires half a day placement.
L2 Certificate in Early Years Education and Care. This is 38 week programme run over two days and requires one day placement.
L1 Award in Introduction to Health and Social Care and Children and Young Peoples Settings. This is a 20 week course combing both childcare and health and social care and requires half a day placement.
What’s changed?
The L1 PREP will now be run as a PCDL workshop as it is no longer funded through Adult Skills.
There will no be no enrichment courses such as nutrition and health as these are also no longer funded.
What’s new?

L2 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools over 39 weeks or 20 weeks fast track. Requires one day placement.
L1 Award Introduction to Adult Social Care. 13 Weeks with half day placement.
L1 Award Introduction to early Years Settings. Run over 13 weeks with half day placement.
But
The L1 PREP will now be run as a PCDL workshop as it is no longer ALS funded.
There will no be no enrichment courses such as mentoring or nutrition and health as these are no longer funded.

17. What’s important at enrolment?
If learners wish to enrol on level 2 programmes they need to bring literacy and numeracy certificates with them to show they have the qualifications at L2.
Learners need to know that a DBS check (used to be CRB) is a requirement and, if they qualify for fee remission, they will need to also apply for DBS fees as well by completing the appropriate forms with IAG team.
Learners are expected to find their own placements.

19. Family Learning How does it work?
Programmes are run city-wide, promoted and recruited by SureStart centre and primary schools
Family Learning run 8 – 10 week courses for parents including Family English, Maths, and Language as well as Personal Development and School Readiness courses
Parents are encouraged and supported to progress to further learning
