become life-long learners.  Research about the of success reciprocal teaching Teachers in Highland Park, Michigan, conducted research and began an effective reading instruction program for students who were not succeeding in school. Reciprocal Teaching raised hopes, expectations, and student achievement in less than one year.

Respect others ideas Cooperation Risk taking is encouraged Effort and achievement is praised Supportive Difference is a positive Cross talk Independent learning

7 What is Rt (Reciprocal Teaching)
Reciprocal teaching is based on Vygotsky's theory of the fundamental role of social interaction in the development of cognition zone of proximal development (ZPD), which is a key feature of his theory. There are two levels of attainment for the ZPD: Level 1 – the ‘present level of development’. This describes what the child is capable of doing without any help from others. Level 2 – the ‘potential level of development’. This means what the child could potentially be capable of with help from other people or ‘teachers’. He believed that through help from other, more knowledgable people, the child can potentially gain knowledge already held by them. However, the knowledge must be appropriate for the child’s level of comprehension. Anything that is too complicated for the child to learn that isn’t in their ZPD cannot be learnt at all until there is a shift in the ZPD. Reciprocal teaching is relevant to instructional concepts such as ``scaffolding'' and ``apprenticeship'', in which a teacher or more advanced peer helps to structure or arrange a task so that a novice can work on it successfully.

8 What does reciprocal teaching look like in my class?
A tuakana and teina pedagogical approach A tool designed to address a mismatch between relatively high reading accuracy and lower comprehension To enhance our priority learners and target learners to become metacognitive pedagogical learners

9 Key info The goal is that one student is the ‘teacher’ for all 4 parts
The student teacher not only leads the discussion but keeps the group focussed Our role is to facilitate this through coaching, modelling, explicit skills teaching and encouragement

10 Collate data Collate data - reading data
Easttle reading/ probe reading Survey will be given to all teachers for students understanding or thoughts on reading Week 4 we will be training with lead teachers
