2 Does my student need to recover credits?  If your student has failed a CORE academic course (math, language arts, science or social studies), they must re-take the course again.  If your student has failed an elective class, they do not need to re-take the same class, but they may still need to take an extra elective class in order to earn enough credits towards graduation.

4 What options do we have?  Credit Recovery (60-69%)  Face to Face at Norcross  Summer School  Face to Face at a GCPS school  Online through Gwinnett Online  7 th period @ Phoenix High School  Located in Lawrenceville  Offers full credit and credit recovery courses  Regular School Day

5 Credit Recovery  Face to Face @ Norcross  Classes Offered: TBD  Cost: TBD  When: Saturday morning option and after school option TBD  Registration: School personnel will meet with eligible student Tuesday, Jan 19 to distribute more details and registration information

6 Summer School  Face to Face at a local school  GCPS chooses 3 high schools every year to host summer school  Online  Most 1 st & 2 nd semester academic courses are offered  Some elective classes are offered  Health/PE & Foreign Languages are always offered  Cost: $250 *cost for last year, subject to change  When: Runs Mon - Thurs from approximately June 9 – July 11*  Registration: Online via MyPaymentsPlus.com  Will close after grades are final in May 2016 * This is unofficial as summer school information for the 2015/16 school year has not yet been released

7 7 th period @ Phoenix High School  Full Classes and Credit Recovery Classes offered 4 times each year  See website for courses offered  Cost: $250 per semester course & $100 per Credit Recovery course  When: 3:40-5:45 or 6:05-8:10 from March 14 - May 19  Registration: Online through MyPaymentsPlus.com from Feb 29 – March 7

8 Regular School Day If your child has failed 1 or 2 classes, they may be able to re-take the course during the regular school day.  Math failures 59% and below – Need to go to summer school in order to be on track for the following year  Please talk to your child’s counselor to see if your child will have room in their schedule to double up on a non-math academic course

9 So many classes, not enough time Unique cases: Not enough room in the schedule to take all classes the students wants  Students may pay for an extra class outside the school day in order to fit in a specific elective class of interest  Example: Student wants to take 4 years of Spanish, Drama and Chorus  Family pays for extra class  If the student begins to struggle and fall behind, school may drop students electives and add in required academics
