THE CONNOR MAN FOUNDATION Our mission is to identify and fund research dedicated to finding effective treatment options- and ultimately a cure-for Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma or DIPG, a rare, inoperable brain tumor that strikes young children.

CONNOR’S STORY On December 15, 2014, a few weeks after his 4 th birthday, Connor was diagnosed with DIPG, an inoperable brain tumor, with no cure. Within days, Connor lost his ability to swallow, speak and move. He underwent 30 rounds of radiation at MD Anderson in Houston, TX. While treatment ultimately provided a temporary reprise from the tumor’s side effects, Connor never regained his ability to walk or full functionality on his right side.

CONNOR BEFORE DIPG CONNOR AFTER DIPG

WHAT IS DIPG? Inoperable brain tumor found in the pons Impairs heart rate, breathing, swallowing, eye movement, eyesight, and balance Robs child of ability to move, communicate, eat and drink

DIPG FACTS 200 - 300 children are diagnosed with DIPG each year DIPG effects children almost exclusively between the ages of 5-10 years old It is the leading cause of death from pediatric brain cancer

DIPG PROGNOSIS Over 99% of children die within 2 years of diagnosis The median survival time is 9 months There has been no improvement in survival rates for children with DIPG in 40 years

THESE ARE THE FACES OF DIPG

DIPG TREATMENT Radiation Therapy – General course of treatment is 30 rounds – Provides temporary relief from tumor growth in 90% of cases – Alleviates symptoms an average of 6-9 months Experimental chemotherapy – Used in conjunction with radiation therapy – DIPG tends to resist therapy likely because of protection from blood brain barrier – Evidence supports that it does not increase survival rates

RESEARCH FUNDING $3-5 million dollars annually are spent on DIPG specific research This is less than 0.0005% of the total funding for cancer research 90% of research dollars are raised by the families who have lost children from the disease

WHY WE NEED YOUR HELP In an effort to find a cure, families have recently started considering DIPG tumor donation. Analysis of this tissue has provided researchers with a better understanding of the biology of DIPG. Doctors are hopeful that this may result in the development of new, more effective therapies. But we cannot do this alone.

YOU CAN BE A SUPERHERO Our superhero Connor Man fought valiantly, but no child should be so brave without the reward for hope. By joining our cause, you can help us provide that hope. Join our fight and become a Superhero in the battle to defeat DIPG! To learn more, please visit www.connorman.org.www.connorman.org
