3. Aylmerton Field Study Centre A small, family-run business established by Alan and Veronica Marett in 1988. Since opening they have gone from strength to strength and have welcomed more than 50,000 pupils. Alan and Veronica are experienced teachers (Alan was an SEN specialist and Veronica was a head teacher) who have worked hard to provide exactly the Centre that they would have liked to visit. Both had extensive experience of taking their own schools on residential visits and therefore knew exactly what worked and what didn't. The end result is Aylmerton Field Study Centre, providing such excellent residential educational visits that schools return to them year after year.

4. What makes them unique? The staff are their asset. They have the highest standards of training and experience. Most of the staff have been employed, on a permanent basis for many years and are totally committed to providing the best possible experience for your child.

6. GSG staff will act in loco parentis during your child’s residential journey. Regular medication will be administered by GSG staff- please ensure this is given to Mrs Bond including information such as dosage and frequency. Children may be administered other ‘over the counter’ medicines if needed. Children who are worried, anxious or homesick will also be looked after by GSG staff. We will only contact parents/carers if: Your child is feeling very unwell, we may take them to the local GP. Your child has an accident or emergency, we accompany them to hospital. Depending on severity, this may be in a member of staff’s car or ambulance.

7. What should my child bring? We have provided parents and carers with a recommended "Kit List“. Please refer to this when packing. A waterproof jacket and trousers, comfortable walking shoes (sturdy trainers are fine) as well as older clothing that you are happy for them to get muddy or wet. Jeans are not suitable when taking part in activities that require children to wear a harness. Indoor shoes/slippers. Children will not need any specialist clothing or equipment. Children will also need a comfortable daypack, preferably with two thick straps. Plenty of sun cream A good hat, ideally with a brim, and a water bottle. No mobile phones or music players. Please encourage your child to bring a special ‘something’ from home if they would like to. Please label everything. Property is hard to keep track of especially if left in the ‘drying room’. Children will need a packed lunch for first day in a disposable carrier bag Kit should be packed in a ‘flexible’, medium-sized suitcase or holdall. Plastic or ‘inflexible’ suitcases do not fit under children’s bunk beds. This poses a fire, health and safety risk to children in the dormitory. Pocket money restricted to £5 (plus £1 coin for swimming lockers).

8. Medicines for trip All medicines (including Travel Sickness Pills) to be clearly labelled and handed to Mrs Bond the week before, or at the very latest, on the morning of departure.

9. A standard day Breakfast at 8.00am- Cooked option as well as cereals, fruit juice and toast. Activities normally commence at about 9.00am, usually with a classroom briefing to explain the day's events, rules and safety points. At 9.30am the day's activities begin; These are either on-site or off-site. A packed lunch is eaten at a suitable point during the day and there are plenty of opportunities to have a drink or a rest or reapply sun cream etc. (staff are very good at insisting that children cover up in hot weather or wear enough layers in cold weather and Aylmerton have included a requirement for them to do so in their Health and Safety policy.) Finish the day's activities around 5.00pm Evening meal at 5.30pm. Evening activities run by AFSC (Monday, Wednesday Thursday) and GSG staff (Tuesday) Bedtime

10. Children sleep in dormitories. Some vary in size and where your child sleeps can be dependent on child’s needs. All accommodation is private and is not shared with any other visiting schools. Staff have their own rooms close to children’s dormitories and are available throughout the night. 12. Final checklist Please give all medicines to Mrs Bond, named and with appropriate instructions by 16 th June or on the morning of 20th June at the very latest. Packed lunch in backpack to take on the coach. Something to do on the coach (magazines, books, pencils). Ensure all clothing is named – waterproof in backpack if raining on morning of departure.
