4 West Runton is known throughout the world for its geology. The pupils will look at the rock formations, glacial deposits, erratics, fossils (including the site where the famous West Runton elephant was discovered) and the forest bed series. They will also look for evidence of pollution. In addition, the children will closely observe the rock pools for life forms. Great emphasis is placed on conservation and observing creatures in their natural habitat. We will also examine the cliffs here and discuss the problems facing the community in light of the government's current policy on sea defences. If tide conditions are favourable, the pupils will be able to try their hand at sea defences themselves in the Sea Defence Game and watch the process of erosion as their castles are eroded.

5 Aylmerton Field Study Centre is a small, family-run business established by Alan and Veronica Marett in 1988. Since opening we have gone from strength to strength and have welcomed more than 50,000 children and 3,700 teachers, served 190,000 cooked breakfasts and crossed the marshes at Blakeney over 1200 times! Alan and Veronica are experienced teachers (Alan was an SEN specialist and Veronica was a headteacher) who have worked hard to provide exactly the Centre that they would have liked to visit. Both had extensive experience of taking their own schools on residential visits and therefore knew exactly what worked and what didn't. The end result is Aylmerton Field Study Centre, providing such excellent residential educational visits that schools return year after year after year - some are now in their 17th season. They do this because Aylmerton, in their opinion, is unmatched by any other Centre.
