2 CHOICES  College/University  Military  Job Force

3 COLLEGE  Research various schools (3 to 5)  Apply paper/on-line  Common Application used by numerous school  Take ACT/SAT/Compass by December  Apply for financial aid - FAFSA  (everyone needs to do this)  Apply for scholarships

4 COLLEGE TIMELINE  Sept 1 –Dec 1 st Applying to Colleges  Apply to dream schools and safety net schools  Sign up in the Counseling Office to meet with reps  Financial Aid should be done by Jan 1 st  Parents can use their 2014 taxes to begin with until 2015 taxes are done  Put down deposits on housing  Applying for scholarships throughout the school year (most deadlines Feb 15)  Mar-May choosing your college

5 ACT Test Information  Next test - October 24  Register late by October 2  Cost $39.50 + $25.00 late fee  Register at www.actstudent/orgwww.actstudent/org  Tests you in math, English, reading & science  Highest score is a 36 composite-average is 22  A good ACT score ranges from 27-30s TESTS - ACT

6 TESTS - SAT  November 7 th  Register by October 9th  Cost $54.50  Register at www.collegeboard.comwww.collegeboard.com  Tests students in math, critical reading, language  A perfect score is a 1600 which is math + critical reading only  A good score is a 1220 and above on math + critical reading.  220 is the equivalent of a 27 on ACT

7 TESTS - COMPASS  Black Eagle Testing Center  Three tests  Each test cost $5 ($15 for all)  Used to apply for CWI, CSI, North Idaho  Used for placement purposes

8 TRANSCRIPTS  Transcript forms in Counseling Office  Fill out and list schools to send transcripts  Transcripts will be given back to you or sent to your school of choice

9 RMHS SENIOR NIGHT October 21st 6:00pm & October 22 nd 2:00pm Find out more information about life after high school (Financial Aid, Scholarship Information, Transcripts, Applications, Etc.)

10 COLLEGE FAIR Monday, October 19 th Expo Idaho (Boise Fairgrounds) 9:00am-2:00pm 6:00-8:00 pm * Students can pick up form in the Counseling Office and must return it to Ms. White between 12:15 – 12:45.

11 ATHLETICS - NCAA  NCAA clearinghouse  www.eligibilitycenter.org www.eligibilitycenter.org  Must register on-line  Must send ACT and SAT scores directly to the clearinghouse  Code for sending 9999  Go over coursework with counselor to make sure you are taking correct courses for NCAA and other requirements  Send transcripts

12 ATHLETICS - NAIA  NAIA regulations require  18 minimum on ACT or 860 on SAT  Overall GPA of 2.O  Graduate in the top half of your class  Register on-line  www.playnaia.org www.playnaia.org  Send transcript to NAIA  ACT or SAT scores must be sent directly to NAIA  Code is 9876

13 SCHOLARSHIPS  Rocky’s Counseling page under Scholarships  University’s Financial Aid/Scholarship page  IdahoCIS.org (user: RMHS1; pass: grizzly)  Look for scholarships through your church or parents’ jobs  Check with Civic organizations-Lions Club, Rotary Club,

14 RECOMMENDATION LETTERS  Create a resume or brag sheet  Ask teacher or counselor verbally to write the letter  Make sure to give them the resume  Give them a stamped envelope if needed and other information needed for task  Make sure to give the teacher plenty of time to write the letter at least 2 weeks

15 MILITARY  Interview each branch of the military you may be interested in  Consider the option packages for each branch  Practice for the ASVAB  Take the ASVAB (sign up in the Counseling Office)  Make a commitment to the branch that you feel best fits you

16 WORKFORCE  Create a great resume  Use your resources to find a job-people you know and people you kind of know  Collect application/and return applications  Set up interviews-dress appropriately  Send a thank you card after the interview

17 HELP  Put a pass in to see your counselor  Senior audits  College admissions representatives  Family members & friends
