WORKSHOP: Verbs & Their Subjects Finding verbs and their subjects is a tricky business, so it’s good to eliminate as many non-verb words as possible One good way to begin is to eliminate all prepositional phrases from the sentence Let’s recall what we learned about prepositions last class session.

5. Preposition Review & Practice The job of the preposition is to connect a noun/pronoun/gerund and its modifiers to another word in a sentence. Example: The cat in the stripey hat ate my goldfish, Harvey. Practice: Working with your group, write prepositional phrases in the following sentences.
