Vocabulary Homework Review Place your completed vocabulary homework in your work area. Review and discuss your answers with others in your group. Share your sentences with others. If your group has questions, raise your hand for help. Mary will circulate around, marking down homework completed and answer questions. We will then review the homework together.

WORKSHOP: Verbs & Their Subjects Finding verbs and their subjects is a tricky business, so it’s good to eliminate as many non-verb words as possible One good way to begin is to eliminate all prepositional phrases from the sentence Let’s recall what we learned about prepositions last class session.

Preposition Review & Practice The job of the preposition is to connect a noun/pronoun/gerund and its modifiers to another word in a sentence. Example: The cat in the stripey hat ate my goldfish, Harvey. Practice: Working with your group, write prepositional phrases in the following sentences. Feel free to make your prepositional phrases as entertaining as possible. 1.The meaning (of Donny’s life) is a mystery. 2.I found my ring (underneath my satin pillow). 3.My cat, Norton, sleeps (on the rug in the bathroom).

And now the finding the verbs & subjects part… Let’s look at your worksheetworksheet

Unity in Writing Let’s explore what unity means. Work with others in your group to come up with a two-bit definition of unity: Sisterhood, harmony, team, together, cooperation E pluribus unum Unity in writing means that everything in an organized piece of writing supports a central idea (thesis in essays and topic sentences in paragraphs) Rather than fool around with bloviation about this, why don’t we just work in groups to get some hands-on experience in unifying a piece of writing.hands-on experience
