3 Food Rules Quiz Why did Michael Pollan write Food Rules: An Eaters Guide? Pollan wanted to know what he and his family should eat to be healthyand then he decided to share what he learned with everyone else What are the two principle components of what Michael Pollan would call a sensible diet? Fact 1: Western diet makes us sick Fact 2: Traditional diets make us well. What fact gives Michael Pollan hope that folks on a typical Western diet can make dramatic improvements in their health? When folks on a traditional Western diet eat like folks in other parts of the world, their health improves. Bonus: what three questions, each governing a whole part of his book, does Michael Pollan ask? Eat foods, mostly plants, not too much.

5 Summarization: An Introduction Please thumb through the Food Rules Introduction, and working with a partner, decide which sentence or sentences come closest to what you think might be Michael Pollans thesis statement. (P. 16) The focus of this book is very different; it is much less about theory, history, and science than it is about our daily lives and practices. (p. 17) Food rules distills this body of wisdom into 64 simple rules for eating healthily and happily. (p. 11) We need to know two basic facts about the links between diet and health, fact that are not in dispute: A Western diet makes us sick and a traditional diet keeps us well. What are the principle ways that Michael Pollan develops his thesis in the Introduction?
