3 RULE TWO Titles of short things appear in quotation marks. -Short Stories -Articles -Poems -Songs

4 RULE THREE When you write about a title, commas and periods go inside the quotation marks. Exclamation points and question marks do not. -Critics love Frost’s poem, “Birches.” -Have you read Frost’s poem, “Birches”?

5 RULE FOUR Quotes within quotes become apostrophes. -”Bob looked at Gary and said, ‘I am Bob,’” said Fred. -”Mom said, ‘Yeeha,’” said Dad. RULE FIVE When citing a quote, begin with the quote, include the page number, place the period outside the parentheses. “You don’t know me” (1). “Mom asked, ‘Who are you?’” (58).
