The Data Insights Group6 Security & Administration

The Data Insights Group7 KSDE Monitor Visits KSDE staff and the members of the Kansas Assessment Advisory Council will visit 5-10% of Kansas schools during test administration. (Monitor Visits)

The Data Insights Group8 Students should be told that they may have a “visitor” during testing. What do the monitors look for? Observe Testing Protocols Ensure Ethics of Testing are being followed Verification of appropriate accommodations

The Data Insights Group9 MUST Teachers MUST read aloud the scripted passages and follow all directions in the examiner’s manual. **Copies of the script will be provided to teachers. NOT Do NOT copy, reproduce, or paraphrase test materials.

The Data Insights Group10 Immediately Immediately report any breach of security or loss of materials to Michael Alldaffer or Shelby Jansen!

The Data Insights Group11 NOT Teachers may NOT review tests, analyze test items, or discuss specific test items before, during, or after the assessment.

The Data Insights Group12 Guidelines for Students

The Data Insights Group13 Allowed to use: -Scratch paper THEY -Graph paper -Manipulatives (from class that THEY make themselves (formulas or diagrams, etc). NO NO electronic devices allowed! Student must make up test if absent.

The Data Insights Group14 Student must make up test if absent. **Students cannot attend the class that they are testing over until they have completed State testing.

The Data Insights Group15 Ethical Issues

The Data Insights Group16 NOT understandaid advise/encourage Teachers may NOT respond to questions during testing that would help the student to understand the question, aid the student in responding to an item, or advise/encourage the student to edit or change a response. Do not coach or cue students in any way during test administration. This includes gestures and facial expressions.

The Data Insights Group17 NOT Teachers may NOT direct or prompt students to use certain strategies at the beginning of the test session or during the test! NOTE NOTE: you can the day before, but not the day of the test! NO Once testing in a subject has begun, NO reviews, teaching, or practicing of tested indicators may be conducted with students who are testing.

The Data Insights Group18 NOT Teachers may NOT give the meaning of words in the text or in questions. ONLY You may ONLY pronounce a word in a question or an answer option. NOT Words may NOT be pronounced in the reading of a passage (the story) on the reading assessment!

The Data Insights Group19 CANNOT Students CANNOT be required to use scratch paper to show their work, or to use the online tools. NOT Teachers may NOT grade scratch paper.

The Data Insights Group20 The classroom teacher is responsible for collecting and destroying student notes, scratch paper, and drawings, etc. at the end of each testing session. These items should be shredded.

The Data Insights Group21 Calculators/Manipulatives

The Data Insights Group22 allowed Calculators are allowed on Parts 1 & 2 of the Math Assessment (not part 3), as well as the Science Assessment.

The Data Insights Group23 are Manipulatives that are routinely used in the classroom may be used by the student on the Kansas Assessments. MUST neither nor The manipulative MUST be chosen by the student. The teacher may neither suggest a particular manipulative nor insist that a manipulative be used. Examples graph paperinteger number linepattern blocks color tiles (squares)snap blockscuisenaire rods geoboardsnumber cubesmoney hundreds chartbase 10 (ten) blocksclock or clock face geometric solidsspinners transparent mirror or mirarulers, meter sticks, protractors, compass CUBES: multilink, connecting, color, wooden, unifix, multilink cubes chips, two-color counters, two-sided counters

The Data Insights Group24 Preparing the room for Testing

The Data Insights Group25 Room/Lab Preparation Arrange students so that they are not sitting next to someone with the same test form/number. (seating charts are optional) Remove or cover bulletin board displays, fact tables, charts and diagrams, and other instructional materials that may give assistance or advantage during testing. Have appropriate manipulatives available for math and science – student use is optional 25 Gen 533 —KCA/Subject

The Data Insights Group26 During Testing Teachers should verify the End / Review Screen to see that all test questions have been answered before a student exits each test. **(At the end of each test session, teachers administering the test via the paper / pencil accommodation may verify all answers have been marked by the student in the test Booklet).

The Data Insights Group27 During Testing If a student did not show the teacher the End / Review screen, teachers should have the student immediately log back on to KCA and show that screen. Students may be reactivated by the building test coordinator (Michael or Shelby).

The Data Insights Group28 Reactivating Students Building test coordinators may reactivate students. Reactivations cannot be done after a weekend. All student reactivations should be recorded in the reactivation log spreadsheet that will be sent to each school. Enter the following: o Student name o State ID o Grade o Subject o Reason for reactivation o Person doing the reactivation

The Data Insights Group29 Monitoring KCA Testing Status Principals, and building test coordinators should monitor the testing status of students at the CETE website. Best practice is to regularly view the testing status to insure that all students are tested. Teachers will have access to testing status or test results this year. They must have a CETE teacher account.

The Data Insights Group30 CETE teacher account Requesting a CETE Teacher Account  Go to www.cete.uswww.cete.us  Click on the link titled “Need a New Account?”  Teachers will be asked for the state teacher ID along with other information in order to acquire an account. Teacher-level accounts at the CETE website will Have access to the following functions:  Monitor Status  View immediate results
