3 Types of Diabetes Type 1 DiabetesType 2 DiabetesGestational Diabetes Body stops producing insulin or does not produce enough. Body is unable to use the insulin that it produces. Pregnancy hormones block insulin from working. Usually found during childhood but can occur in adults. Usually occurs in people who are overweight. Occurs during the second half of pregnancy. Treated with daily doses of insulin. Treated with diet, exercise and medication. Treated with diet and exercise. No cure for Type 1 Diabetes. May no longer need medication if they lose weight. Will usually go away after the birth of the baby. No way to prevent Type 1 Diabetes. Can be prevented by controlling weight and alcohol consumption.
