2. Simple Sentence Has one independent clause Independent Clause: a group of words that contains a subject and verb and expresses a complete thought.

3. EXAMPLE: Jake reads magazines. Jake reads magazines & novels. Jake and Keli read magazines. ** No punctuation (commas, semi- colons) needed for these types of sentences**

4. Compound Sentences Has two independent clauses joined by: :a semi-colon :coordinating conjuction (and, but, or) etc. :Transition words (however, therefore etc.)

5. EXAMPLE: Jake reads magazines, but Keli reads comics. Jake reads magazines; however Miranda reads comics. Jake reads magazines; his friend reads comics. **Punctuation: :Use a semi- colon between independent clauses OR :an independent clause (comma) transition word followed by the Other clause
