2 In September 2009, 85% of filled article requests at OSU were delivered via Odyssey, compared to 36% filled via Odyssey in Fall 2005. We've reduced the number of articles we send in paper to a trickle, and our ARIEL use has dropped significantly as many libraries now turn to Odyssey. In Ohio, many schools that had never sent articles electronically in the past are now using the free Odyssey Standalone client. 5 Why Use Odyssey Standalone? Low cost: it’s FREE and easy to use. Faster service: It allows rapid, electronic transmission of documents (and better quality than faxing). Compatibility: You can send and receive documents with any library using ILLiad or Odyssey Standalone. Savings: Reduce paper, printing, and postage costs associated with snail mail Community: Makes for a smoother borrowing and lending workflow for 540+ other ILLiad and Odyssey Standalone libraries

6 Use of Odyssey From September 2008 to September 2009 the number of libraries using Odyssey has increased 21% There are approximately to 540+ libraries using Odyssey OhioLINK (Ohio’s academic library consortium) established Odyssey as its standard electronic delivery mechanism for articles.

7 Who might be interested in using Odyssey Standalone? Smaller libraries new to scanning that want to obtain articles quickly for their patrons Library consortia wanting an inexpensive and easy-to- use mechanism for sending documents between members (Free Odyssey vs For-Fee Ariel) Ariel users who want to send and receive electronically with ILLiad or Odyssey-only locations Multi-library ILLiad locations wanting to decentralize scanning but not maintain the ILLiad client at different libraries.

11 Put your Odyssey IP in your OCLC Policies Directory record 2. Under the Unit tab, click Information and then click the Edit button. 3. Scroll down to the Borrowing Information area and enter your IP address in the ILLiad Odyssey Address field. Then click the Save button. 1. Go to your institution’s record in the Policies Directory at https://illpolicies.oclc.orghttps://illpolicies.oclc.org

12 Let Borrowers know that you lend via Odyssey 1. Under the Policies tab, go to the Copies section. 2. First click on the appropriate policy name (if you have more than one). Then go to the Fees section and click the Edit button. 3. Go to the Delivery section and click the Add button. Choose ILLiad-Odyssey from the Delivery Method dropdown. (Put a checkmark next to Default if you want Borrowers to know that Odyssey is your default sending method.) Click the Save button at the bottom of the screen.
