10 Mr Kharim said to Rahim,” I have caught a big fish.” Direct Narration : The speech quoted in the exact words of the speaker is a Direct Speech or Direct Narration. It is always written within inverted commas. Example:

11 Mr. karim told Rahim that he had caught a big fish. Indirect Narration: The speech reported in narrative form without quoting the exact words of the speaker is an Indirect Narration. It is always written without inverted commas and the reporting speech and the reported speech are joined by a linking words,

17 Assertive sentence The teacher said to the students, “The Earth moves round the Sun.” The teacher told the students that the Earth moves round the Sun. If the Direct Speech describes a universal truth, habitual fact, geographical fact & question, the verb in the reported speech remains unchanged.

18 If the reporting verb is the present or future tense, the tense in the reported speech is not changed. She says that she is ill. She says, “ I am ill.”

25 Optative sentence Mother prayed that Allah might bless her. Mother said to her daughter, “ May Allah bless you,”

26 Mr. Karim said, “ Good morning, my friend.” Mr. Karim wished his friend good morning. If the sentence that convey greeting, good morning, good evening, good afternoon,etc. are changed in the following way: Subject+ wished+ object+ good morning/ evening/afternoon etc. But good bye/night/farewell, are changed into bade.

27 Shila said, “How beautiful the scenery is!” Shila exclaimed with joy that the scenery was very beautiful. Exclamatory sentence Structure of reported speech: sub+ verb+ very/great+ adjective ----.

32 The teacher said to the boy, “ Do you think that honesty is the best policy?” The boy said, “ Yes sir, I think so.” “Then learn to be honest from your boyhood,” said the teacher. “Thank you sir,” said the boy. The teacher asked the boy if he thought that honesty is the best policy. The boy respectfully replied in the affirmative that he thought so. Then the teacher advised the boy to learn to be honest from his boyhood. The boy respectfully thanked him.

33 Mita Labib “Have you ever been to Cox’s Bazar?” asked Labib. “No, I have never,” replied Mita. “But I desire for visiting the place.” Labib asked Mita if she had ever been to Cox’s Bazar. Mita replied in the negative that she had never but added that she desired for visiting the place.

34 Kamal said to Nila, “ What are you doing this hour? It is time for prayer. Let us go out after saying prayer.” “Yes, I agree with you,” said Nila. Kamal asked Nila what she was doing that hour and added that it was time for prayer and proposed that they should go out after saying prayer. Nila replied in the affirmative that she agreed with him. kamal Nila
