tú versus ústed In Spanish, there are 2 ways to say “you.” Tú is informal and can be used with friends, classmates, brothers & sisters, etc. Ústed is formal and is used to show respect while speaking. It would be used towards a boss, teacher, or adult older than yourself.

The Skeleton Spanish pronouns will always be arranged in the same format in any Spanish class. This pronoun format is nicknamed The Skeleton because it is the bones upon which verbs are conjugated, and will never change no matter which verbs you use.

The Skeleton yo ____ nosotros/as ____ tú ____ vosotros/as ____ él/ella/usted __ ellos/ellas/ustedes ____

Vosotros Vosotros means “you all” and is used only in Spain. It is italicized in many high school texts because it is optional to teach it in high school. Some teachers do and some don’t. So you may see skeletons in which vosotros is removed.

Abbreviations Usted is commonly abbreviated as Ud. Ustedes is commonly abbreviated as Uds.

Ser Ser means “to be”

Ser Yo soy (I am) Nosotros/as somos (we are) tú eres (you are) él/ella/usted es (is) ( formal you are) Ellos/ellas/ustedes son (are)
