We can help promote via SU and SA Facebook Pages Make sure your social media pages & mailing lists are linked to your Students’ Union email.

10 REFRESHE RS TRAININ G 2016 Social Media & Branding Social Media Social media pages should all have the same name i.e. Royal Holloway Drama Society: FB @RH_DramaSoc: Twitter Link your social media pages to your @su.rhul.ac.uk email address FB: Use pages for external facing. Use groups for communicating with members. Keep posts on pages professional not chatty!

11 REFRESHE RS TRAININ G 2016 Social Media & Branding Weekly Newsletter Send out weekly updates to your members about what your weekly activities are Use different online tools such as MailChimp to make it fun and exciting. Keep it regular so members know when to expect to hear from you e.g. Every Sunday night at 6pm. Add your own flare to it!

13 REFRESHE RS TRAININ G 2016 Social Media & Branding College Rules No stickers Public poster boards only Campus Noticeboard (formerly Message of the Day) –To be used for major events –Requires a week’s notice Noise restrictions Leafleting on campus –No rubbish! Flash mobs Proposals are needed for anything out of the ordinary that will impact on campus and fellow students

14 REFRESHE RS TRAININ G 2016 Social Media & Branding Safe Spaces Online & In Person A safe space policy, which all SU members need to abide by all over campus, including online! You must nominate an ‘Online Moderator’ who will monitor your online spaces and ensure they are safe! Your ‘Online Moderator’ should be your Secretary, Publicity or Communications Officer!

15 REFRESHE RS TRAININ G 2016 Social Media & Branding Posters Procedures For all media (both printed & digital) you must: –Follow Student Activities branding guidelines (e.g. SU logo) –Send your poster in to Student Activities to be approved –Specify where you intend it to be used, the size and when you want it distributed/displayed –Good quality artwork is essential (preferably vector)

16 REFRESHE RS TRAININ G 2016 Social Media & Branding A Good Poster: Tells a story Can be read from more than 5 feet away Is interesting and eye-catching Has a simple, uncluttered design Employs legible fonts Uses clear language and images in a logical sequence Summarizes key points without excess detail Remember you have 10-15 seconds to capture their attention
