2 Territorial Alsace and Lorraine returned to France; Poland recreated ; West Prussia, Silesia and Posen given to new Poland – Polish Corridor; Saar Coalfield given to France for 15 years; German colonies confiscated; North Schleswig given to Denmark; Anschluss (union of Germany and Austria) forbidden.

3 Military and Naval German army limited to 100,000 men; Rhineland Demilitarised High Seas Fleet to be handed over to the Allies (deliberately SCUTTLED); German navy limited to six small battleships and no submarines; Germany forbidden to have an air force; Tanks, gas, heavy artillery forbidden in the German forces.

4 War Guilt and Reparations Article 231 – the WAR GUILT CLAUSE. Germany had to accept that she was responsible for starting the war; Article 232 – Germany had to pay REPARATIONS (of £6.6bn for all the damage done during the war. Not set until 1921) £6.6 Billion

5 Collective Security The League of Nations was set up in order to prevent future wars. Excluded from League membership were all the defeated nations (Germany, Austria, Hungary, Bulgaria and Turkey), also Russia. America did not join the League, even though it was Wilson’s idea.
