The Word of God

Sacred Scripture Another name for the Bible

Inspiration of the Bible The Holy Spirit inspired, or helped, the human writers of the Bible to faithfully and accurately communicate God’s Word.

Old Testament Tells the story of the Covenant that God entered into with humankind. New Testament Tells the story about the fulfillment of that promise.

Old Testament 4 Different Kinds of Books – Torah – Historical Books – Wisdom Books – Prophetic Books

Torah – Also known as the Pentateuch – 10 Commandments and other laws to guide God’s people

Historical Books – 16 of them – Tell about how the Israelites struggled to remain faithful to God’s teachings

Wisdom Books – 7 of them – Teach us practical ways to live God’s law

Prophetic Books – 18 of them – Prophets were inspired by God to speak in his name

New Testament Divided into 4 parts – Gospels Life of Jesus – Acts of the Apostles Learn about the early church – Epistles and Other Letters Teach about Jesus and how Christians are to live – Book of Revelation Encourages Christians who are struggling to remain faithful to Jesus

Your assignment Create a tree map the classifies all 73 books of the bible. It should start with Bible at the top, OT and NT and then branch it out from there.
