Universal Prekindergarten (UPK) Program New York State UPK GRANT FUNDS Anticipated

3 Reasons Why the UPK Program is Anticipated 1.VC Board of Education must decide to move forward with the UPK Program for (May) 2.UPK Grant Applications sent to NYS (June/July) 3.Grant Approval Notification Received (August)

New York State UPK Allotment Valley Central School District should receive current funding amounts for the school year 35 students for half-day UPK services 112 students for full-day UPK services

Student Eligibility for UPK 1.Age requirement: child must turn four (4) years old on or before December 1, Child must reside within the Valley Central School District 3.Completion of an application form and submission of all required documents

Student Selection Process Half-Day Program 1.Random lottery selection 2.Each eligible application will be drawn and if needed a waiting list will be created 3.Selection is performed by the Board of Education or its designee in April 2016

Student Selection Process Full-Day Program 1.Rubric/lottery selection process 2.Priority will be given to high needs students based on information submitted with the UPK application packet. Each eligible application will be drawn and if needed a waiting list will be created 3. Selection is performed by the Board of Education or its designee in April 2016

Full-Day Priority Selection Process (More Than 112 Full-Day Applicants) START Each eligible full-day applicant assigned 0-5 points based on need Separate all full-day applicants into six groups based on # of points assigned: 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 or 0 Random lottery selection #1 for all students with 5 points Place each 5 point student on master list in order they were selected Random lottery selection #2 for all students with 4 points Place each 4 point student on master list, below 5 point students, in order they were selected Random lottery selection #3 for all students with 3 points Place each 3 point student on master list, below 4 point students, in order they were selected Random lottery selection #4 for all students with 2 points Place each 2 point student on master list, below 3 point students, in order they were selected Random lottery selection #5 for all students with 1 point Place each 1 point student on master list, below 2 point students, in order they were selected Place first 112 students on master list at full-day providers END Remaining students on master list placed on full-day waiting list Random lottery selection #6 for all students with 0 points Place each 0 point student on master list, below 1 point students, in order they were selected

Notification of Lottery Selection ALL eligible applicants will receive an indicating whether their child was selected and placed at one of the UPK Providers OR placed on the waiting list

Placement, Registration and Screening Placement at a UPK Provider will occur following the selection process Required full VCSD registration to take place in mid May 2016 Required Health screening to take place in June 2016

Local UPK Providers (also called vendors, collaborating agencies and CBO’s – Community Based Organizations) Must meet all NYS UPK requirements and Commissioner of Education regulations to provide services

The Providers are: MISS CINDY’S NEIGHBORHOOD NURSERY SCHOOL MONTGOMERY NURSERY SCHOOL MOST PRECIOUS BLOOD SCHOOL MS. CLAIRE’S MONTESSORI SCHOOL SCHOOL TIME CHILDREN’S CENTER

UPK Provider Open House Schedule Please refer to the back of tonight’s agenda for dates, times and locations of each UPK Provider’s Open House

UPK Parents & Guardians What is expected? Transport your child to and from the UPK Provider five days a week (Drop off and pick up your child at the appointed starting and ending times for your child’s class. If you regularly do not get your child to school on time or pick them up before class ends, it may jeopardize your child’s continued enrollment in UPK) Your child should be potty-trained before September Full-day UPK only: Send your child to school with lunch five days a week

Let’s Take a Look at the Application… There is no award for being the first to hand in your application – it does not improve your chances of being selected It is more important that you wait to hand in your application until you have ALL your required documents than to hand in an application that is incomplete

Use the CHECKLIST provided in the application packet to ensure all parts of the application packet that apply to you are completely and accurately filled out AND that ALL required documents are submitted WITH your application

Please Note: UPK staff are unable to answer questions or personally accept your application if you choose to drop it off at the ALC If you have any questions about the application or required documents, please call or the UPK Office BEFORE bringing your application to the ALC –The UPK Office cannot make photocopies for you. You must provide your own copies.

Please visit each provider’s table tonight and attend the Open Houses in order to determine which UPK Provider you will list as your 1 st, 2 nd, 3 rd choice, etc. on the Provider Selection Sheet Vendor Fair:
