There is a sequence of priority for credit recovery. For example, classes that build upon prior knowledge need to be repeated first, such as math. Also, to graduate, a student needs 40 credits of English, so it is a priority to make up English credits. Based on this priority sequence, our system tells us which course a student needs to take during summer school. You will see those courses marked with an asterisk. Some students are currently enrolled in a credit recovery class, either during the school day or after school. It becomes very important for students to complete continue with the in-progress courses, because student should complete credit recovery as soon as possible. It is not good practice to wait until summer school, as you never know what might occur in terms of obstacles to graduation – there have been students who rely on summer school, then are unable to pass or complete the course and fall further behind. Students are always enrolled and highly encouraged to complete credit recovery when given the first opportunity. Depending on whether a student fails courses during spring semester, or whether a student passes or fails an in-progress course, the student’s summer school classes may change. This is why the letters you receive state “To be enrolled.” The final classes for first session will be confirmed on your Summer School locator, which students will receive during the last week of school. Second session courses, may or may not be determined until the start of summer school.
