August 2013 Updates: Hahgoot’s studies

Term 3 was a good one for Hahgoot academically. She reached a Silver certificate, after collecting another 10 awards (now she had 30 awards altogether)

In English, at home, she started working in a new workbook for year 3 to expand her language and has enjoyed the Little House on the Prairie series and Horrible Histories. She enjoyed the Groovy Greeks book so much she asked to read more myths.

So I brought her a thick Graphic novel about the Odyssey... She LOVED it! It was so heavy she couldn’t lift it but read it with much enthusiasm.

And we didn’t stop with the classics there... She also enjoyed Pipi Longstockings’ adventures (left) and Shaun Tan’s “The Rabbits” (from Mrs Chan’s private home collection! We are now part of the official local fan club...)

Another magnificent Shaun Tan book from Mrs Chan’s private collection: “Memorial” Hahgoot enjoyed both the stunning illustrations and the thought provoking topics.

Shaun Tan’s “The Arrival” (from the library) is a real masterpiece!

In Hebrew Hahgoot continued with crosswords and her idioms project

She worked well and independently in her reading comprehension workbook

In maths things were a bit trickier... Takes ages to get her to finish her multiplication tasks (not because it is too hard) and she does some effort to solve maths riddles, but she doesn’t always cooperate with using a ruler or with doing hands on tasks.

She is willing to do some work if it looks more like art than maths or if it is a game. If Barak tries to teach her an algorithm or strategy to solve a puzzle she gets very negative and won’t listen.

At last, after years, I found a mazes book Hahgoot is willing to do and actually enjoys! It’s a challenging one, but she likes the little “stories” in each picture.

After school, while Hanna (Adrian’s mum) and I take turns talking to Mrs Chan (poor thing, she sees the two of us probably every two days...) the kids have the best time ever rolling down the grassy hill in the centre of the school.

They are very lucky to have such a pleasant school! In our next presentation: Hahgoot’s art projects
