1. August 2013 Updates: Literacy and other creative adventures!

2. Alma enjoys tracing and as a good “Montessori Kid” she finds lots of options to practice her writing... There is a reason I have interesting placemats while we eat! Alma finishing her Father’s Day card she started in day care.

3. Our mini fashion queen enjoyed this “fashion through the ages” stickers workbook

4. Alma and I started a project: we are making an Aleph-Bet poster from this series of cards. Alma helps me find the right letter sticker and then helps me chose colours to colour in the picture (she still doesn’t want to colour in). I started very generally to introduce the sounds and she is very enthusiastic.

5. We also played with “letter cubes”: we toss a cube on the floor and look for an object that starts with that sound. Here she chose the bee as it makes a “ZZZZ” sound to match the letter Zain... Part of reading is the confidence to feel you can read, and she is in the right direction!

7. Our house is a literacy rich environment: there are Hebrew letters on posters, in books and on TV!

8. As Alma is a kinaesthetic learner, we also explored the letters with her body. She posed as the different letters while shouting their sound. Good fun! Dalet Bet Gimel Heh Aleph

9. Another physical way to practice the letters was through making them from play dough and assembling in this nice book

10. Barak was also involved with teaching Alma the letters, as they played with magnets, assembling letters and words, and other things as well...

11. We started a project of making a visual dictionary from pictures we collected from magazines.

12. Besides reading, Alma also practiced her writing with tracing of lines and letters and some free scribbling. In our next presentation: Play date with Jasper at Lollipops!
