June 2013 Updates: The stickers book obsession continues!

Alma is not only highly motivated to do stickers books, she also insists on doing them by herself, which is tricky, as she is under 3 years old... This month I found for her a mosaics stickers book with mermaids (top left), a Mr Men make-a-scene workbook (right) and a Monsters Inc book from their new movie

She was so desperate to do workbooks that she even asked to do one about cars! Well, she might have learned some new things...

I found her a very challenging “I spy” stickers book (she finds the items faster than I do!) and she did one about “A tale of five balloons” in Hebrew.

The “tale of five balloons” workbook was really good, she enjoyed all the activities (especially tracing, find the differences and stickers, of course)

To make things interesting, sometimes I stick the tiny stickers on her fingers and hand and she picks them off and places on the page (left).

This month we worked on a fantastic workbook I got on our last trip to Israel. The workbook, about the senses, has stickers, tasks to fill in and hands-on activities to explore the topic in depth.

Top: Hahgoot helped out with an auditory activity from the workbook. The girls took turns identifying sounds and objects. Bottom: to better understand how the eye functions, we poked a hole through the iris of the eye on the page and Alma took a look. Hahgoot was in charge of choosing the objects...

Left: to explore the sense of touch, we found materials and sorted stickers – a great learning resource! Right: Alma loved sticking the stickers on her face first to identify the parts of the face. Good educational fun!

Top left and right: Another task about the sense of touch. Alma poked holes along the line of the heart and then turned the page to feel the picture. Bottom: Learning about the parts of the tongue and how we taste different flavours in different areas.

A taste test: I tried to get the girls to guess the various flavours while being blindfolded, but Hahgoot was terrified and refused to play along, thus ruining the experiment for Alma. They did enjoy licking the honey and chocolate shavings...

Alma worked hard on her workbook while Hahgoot worked on her tasks. But Hahgoot was happy to join in the senses memory game (below).

So busy... So much to learn!

There are now many gender-specific workbooks for very young kids. I got very annoyed by the pink- dominant workbooks for girls, as beyond the nauseating colour, the topics are home, cleaning and fashion (blah!) So I got a “boys” workbook for Alma about space (in a nice shade of blue) and she did very well. Why do boys get the stuff about dinosaurs and space while girls still clean and get dressed in the 21 st century!?

After solving all the puzzles, mazes and math riddles, Alma used her star stickers for decorating her stationary box.

See you at the July presentations soon!
