Deforestation By Colton Morgan, Ethan Van Nostrand, Josh Hale

What is Deforestation? Deforestation is the mass cutting down of trees through natural or man- caused disasters. Natural disasters include tornadoes, volcano eruptions, hurricanes, and droughts. Man caused deforestation include commercial and illegal logging, the “slash and burn” method, and clear cutting. These methods can be stopped although the natural disasters cannot because it is part of nature.

What are the Causes of Deforestation? Clear cutting method The “slash and burn” method Tornadoes Forest fires Droughts Hurricanes Illegal logging Commercial logging Wood for houses and buildings Paper and paper products Space for farming and livestock

Why is Deforestation Important? Speeds up global warming Releases 20% of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere Could one day make world uninhabitable Endangered animals Deprives living things of food Causes desertification Destroys animals habitats Changes rain patterns Can cause flooding and landslides Less biodiversity in the rainforest

How Can YOU Help Prevent Deforestation? Pressure Companies Make sure it is legal Ask questions about products Help with reforestation Tell about the harmful effects of deforestation Protect areas Promote horse logging Protect ancient and endangered forests Protect endangered animals Work with activists
