Aprenda –March 9, 2009 – April 10, 2009 –May take Aprenda and up to 2 opportunities with OAKS Online Reading.

OAKS Online Improvements This year it is possible to print the reading passages from the OAKS Online reading assessment. This is an accommodation for students who would benefit from having a printed version of the online reading passage. Test Administrators must securely discard any printed copies of the OAKS Online reading passages.

OAKS Online Spanish/English Side by Side Spanish/English assessments are included as an option on the OAKS online assessment. Side by Side Spanish/English assessments are available for Math, Science, and Social Science.

OAKS Spanish/English Paper/Pencil Assessments Spanish/English Students have the option of taking a side by side Spanish/English paper/pencil assessment in place of the online version. Paper/Pencil Assessments are a one- time test option. Students may not take a paper/pencil side by side test and the OAKS online side by side test.

OAKS Russian/English Paper/Pencil Assessment Russian/English Students have the option of taking a side by side Russian/English paper/pencil assessment. This assessment is in place of the online version. Russian/English assessments will be available for download from ODE’s secure web site prior to the paper/pencil window.

Aprenda The Aprenda is an optional Spanish reading assessment for 3 rd grade students. District Test Coordinators must order the Aprenda when they order paper/pencil assessments (Dec. 5-19, 2008 ). Aprenda may be taken in place of one of the three OAKS online reading assessments.

English Language Proficiency Assessments (ELPA) For 2008–2009, schools must use Oregon’s ELPA for ALL students meeting the criteria for an English Language Learner. Only those students with a valid ELPA administration will be counted as part of the Assessment and Accountability Reports. Students on monitor status do not take ELPA.

What to Watch For in ELPA Administration Appendix for the Test Administration Manual Specific guidelines for administration for students with disabilities Login changes Improved ending

WEB site changes Soon all ELPA information will be linked from the above web site. ODE will be responsible for updating the information on this web site.

ELPA Score Delivery Part of ELPA is hand scored. You will not have an immediate score for your students. ELPA scores take 6 weeks from the end of the month in which the students take the assessment. Example: If a student completes the ELPA in January, the student scores will be available after March 15 th.

Schedule of Scoring and Reporting JanuaryFebruaryMarchAprilMay Testing Scoring Reporting JuneJuly

Examples of ELPA Accommodations Refer to Appendix Q of the Test Administration Manual for a complete list of Accommodations for ELPA Accommodations are to be used on an individual basis, not whole group. Two examples of Accommodations for ELPA are: – Students may benefit from having multiple test sessions instead of one long test session. Directions may be translated for a student.

LEP Students with Disabilities Most LEP students with disabilities participate in the ELPA with accommodations. For an IEP or 504 plan that require a modification in ELPA administration: Test Administrators are expected to review the guidelines for administering the ELPA to a student with a disability included in Appendix B of the Test Administration Manual. The District Test Coordinator (DTC) must input the ELPA IEP/504 codes in Student Staging, these codes are located in Appendix S of the Test Administration Manual.

Suggested ELPA Administration Practices – Timing Testing Early – Level 4 & retained Level 5 ELL students take the ELPA early in the assessment window in order to receive scores in time to process exiting if appropriate. Testing Later – Level 1 and 2 ELL students take the ELPA later in the assessment window to provide time for language acquisition, whenever possible.

Suggestions cont. Student Support K-3 and any student who may need additional support. 1 Test Administrator for every 2 students Pre-printed cards with student login information Information Needed for Legal Name, Date of Birth, SSID, School District, and School Name Secure storage of login cards Secure way to destroy login cards

Test Administrator (Teacher) and DTC Reports ELPA has participation reports in “real-time” under the Teacher and DTC logins. Test Administrators can check student participation in ELPA: Students who are currently logged in to ELPA Students who have partially completed ELPA Students who have completed the ELPA assessment. This is a participation report not a score report.

Sample Participation Report

Test Security Cautions Directions are the only portion of ELPA that may be translated. Each student should login independently. Test administrators should double-check the student name and school identification carefully to avoid errors. Students should be instructed to work independently, not offering help to other students.
