Biomes By: Ragan Holcomb

Biome- A large region characterized by a specific type of climate and certain types of plant and animal communities. These are the biomes of the world!

Tundra

Precipitation and Temperature Yearly Rainfall 6-10 in cm. Temperature Summer: 53.6 degrees Fahrenheit, 12 degrees Celsius Winter: -30 degrees Fahrenheit, -34 degrees Celsius

Climate and landforms Long, Extremely Cold Winters, and Cool Summers. Vast Treeless land and contains Permafros t.

Animals Arctic Fox, Snowshoe Hares, And Polar Bear

Plants Mosses, Lichens, and Grasses.

Taiga

Precipitation and Temperature Average Temperature- Summer: 14 degrees Celsius and 52.7 degrees Fahrenheit Winter: -10 degrees Celsius and 14 degrees Fahrenheit. Average Precipitation centimeters and inches.

Climate and Landforms Many Lakes and Many Bogs. Depressions from glaciers and some trees. Long, Cold Winters and Short, Cool Summers. Also lots of snow.

Animals Gray Wolf, Grizzly Bear, And Snowshoe Rabbit.

Plants Coniferous trees/ Evergreens, Pines, Furs, and Spruce

Temperate Deciduous Forests

Precipitation and Temperature The average precipitation is inches or ( cm). The average temperature is 50 degrees Fahrenheit or (10 degrees Celsius).

Climate and Landforms  Growing season is 6 months long. There are four seasons which are fall, winter, spring, and summer.  Trees’ leaves change colors and then fall off during the fall. There are also many different types of trees.

Animals Wolf, Bear, Deer, Lynx, and Owl

Plants Oak Tree, Maple Tree, Cottonwood Tree, Beech Tree, and Basswood Tree.

Temperate Grasslands

Precipitation and Temperature Average yearly rainfall is centimeters and inches. Average temperatures- Summer: 30 degrees Celsius and 86 degrees Fahrenheit. Winter: 0 degrees Celsius and 32 degrees Fahrenheit.

Climate and Landforms Precipitation occurs in the late spring and early summer. Covered in an ocean of grasses, Rolling Hills, and Prairies, Steppes, Pampas, and Veldt.

Animals Grazing animals, stay in herds, Buffalo, and Antelope

Plants Grasses and few trees

Savanna

Precipitation and Temperature Average rainfall: inches and centimeters. From December to February hardly no rain falls at all. Average temperature: Dry: 34 degrees Celsius and 93 degrees Fahrenheit Wet: 16 degrees Celsius and 61 degrees Fahrenheit.

Climate and Landforms Has wet and dry climate. Dry season in Winter and wet season in Summer. Has trees, have some rivers and streams, is a grassland, and scattered with shrubs and isolated trees.

Animals Elephants, Baboons, Zebra, Cheetahs, Lions, and Leopards

Plants Baobab Tree, Acadia Tree, and Grasses

Desert

Temperature and Precipitation Average Rainfall: Normally receives less than 250 mm. of rain a year. Average Temperatures: Daytime- 50 degrees Celsius and 122 degrees Fahrenheit. Nighttime- 0 degrees Celsius and 32 degrees Fahrenheit.

Climate and Landforms The air is very dry, and the heat reaches the ground very quickly during the day. As soon as the sun sets the desert becomes cool. Desert landscapes have certain distinctive features. Deserts are often composed of sand and rocky surfaces.

Animals Spider, Snakes, Scorpions, Camel, Gila Monster, and Jerboa

Plants Sugaro cactus

Tropical Rain Forest

Temperature and Precipitation Daytime: 34 Degrees Celsius and 93 Degrees Fahrenheit Nighttime: 20 Degrees Celsius and 68 Degrees Fahrenheit Average Yearly Rainfall: Up to 400 centimeters and inches

Climate and Landforms The climate is warm all year and has abundant rainfall Lots of trees and shallow and rich soil.

Animals Poisonous Dart Frogs, King Cobras, and Gorillas

Plants Bengal Bamboo, Silk-Cotton Tree, Strangler Figs, and Civet fruit
