Warm-up: Who is wealthier?

Cause and effect essay  Cause and effect essays are concerned with why things happen (causes) and what happens as a result (effects).  Cause and effect is a common method of organizing and discussing ideas.

Reading: The millionaire next door T or F?  __1. A typical millionaire is easy to recognize by his beautiful house, his luxury car, and his expensive lifestyle.  __2. Most millionaires are the first people in their family to become millionaires.  __3. A typical millionaire is single.  __4. Reading: Why students are poor  Read the essay.  What are the two main reasons that college students are poor? 1) College students can not work full- time because they need to study. 2) College students have a lot of extra expenses related to school.

Reading: Why students are poor  Why do college students sacrifice the extra money that a job would provide ? College students are hoping that a college degree will help prepare them to get a good job with a high salary.

Reading: Why students are poor  What are the additional expenses that college students have? College students have to pay tuition and related fees. They have to buy books, computers and technology-related resources, pens, notebooks, etc.

Reading: Why students are poor  Explain whether you think the writer admires college students or not, and why. The writer admires college students because they work hard and make sacrifices to reach their future goals.
