Passato Prossimo of Irregular Verbs Page 168 By: Stella Froliklong Partners with: Carla and Giada

Overview Verbs are action words… they convey what the subject is doing. Or in the case passato prossimo, what the subject has done. Irregular verbs are verbs that have an irregular/non-traditional passato prossimo form. This means that they do not follow the typical form of conjugation: infinitive stem + ending. Irregular verbs may end in are, ore or ire.

Important Points (P.169) ere verbs have the largest number of irregular past participles. essere and stare have the same past participle (stato/a/i) essere and avere take their auxiliaries in the past tense

ARE There are only 4 irregular verbs that end in are: -Andare (to go) -Dare (to give) -Stare (to stay) -Fare (to do/to make)

IRE/ERE There are many more ere and ire endings than there are endings. Here are a few examples… Ire -Aprire (to open) -Dire (to say/to tell) Ere -Bere (to drink) -Correre (to run)

Sample Conjugation Stare Sto Stai Sta Stiamo State Stanno

A few examples Chiudere = ho chiuso Correre = ho corso Dipingere = ho dipinto Leggere = ho letto Dire = ho detto Offrire = ho offerto
