A03 – My Adaptation: Person Of Interest Sundeep Singh

My Adaptation I am going to adapt ‘Person of Interest’ an a American science fiction crime drama television series that was created by Jonathan Nolan and this series revolved around John Reese, who is a former CIA officer and Harold Finch who is a mysterious billionaire and recruits him in order to prevent violence and extreme behavior in New York City. I am going to adapt this TV series in to a high budget Hollywood film, as this is a strong concept idea and I believe it would be successful on the big screen as similar TV series have been made and produced into films such as ‘the Equalizer’ and ‘the X Files’.

Genre and Narrative ‘Person of Interest’ is an action, crime, drama and science fiction show. This TV show is about an ex-assassin and a wealthy programmer who saves lives via ‘a machine/artificial intelligence’ and sends identities of civilians that are going to be involved in a crime or going to commit the crime and this turns into a mystery on whether or not he or she should be saved. The narrative structure of the film will full of substantial flashbacks and a complex resolution for the two main characters Harold Finch and John Reese, and it would ultimately leave them it to a better situation but still mean that would be hiding from the law, and live as a ghost.

Budget The budget of my new adaptation is £30 million, this is because it is a big blockbuster Hollywood scale movie that is similar to films such as ‘The Equalizer’ that had a budget of $55,000,000 and also similar to ‘The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo’ and the budget was $90,000,000 and both of theses movies are similar to my Hollywood adaptation of ‘The Person of Interest’.

Constraints and Opportunities Constraints This could be a relatively successful adaptation of the original TV series but the budget could become a problem due to the cast and also the TV series which the movie is based on has been adapted from the original source material to be much more for a live action audience and both the scale and the stakes have been increased to make it a realistically a much better story. Opportunities To make this a success my secondary audience will be much more interested as the key roles are given to actors who are very successful actors and this increases the audience. The technology will be used in this new adaption is real 3D which will be converted and filmed using the EPIC IMAX 3D cameras and Christopher Nolan the director is known for his work in introducing new pioneering techniques in film so he is the perfect director to bring this vision to life with integrity.

Target Audience My audience is year olds who have a disposable income and they are interested in the thriller, crime and drama genre with a social-economic group of ‘E’ and are interested in the writer and enjoy his style, this is the primary audience and the secondary audience are young adults who are interested in the stars and have a deeper interest in the genre. My new adaptation for ‘Person of Interest’ is very similar from the original adaptation with the addition of new fan base with the director and the cast of ‘Person of Interest’. The science-fiction genre is still consistent and present through the show even though many of the events that take place are currently unfolding the world and this applies to the core target audience.

Cinematic Ideas The look and feel for my new adaption for ‘Person of Interest’ is a traditional modern crime and thriller, very similar from the original TV series but brought up to a modern cinematic audience by increasing the action sequences, making it much bigger scale as it is a high end Hollywood film, and it is all based in New York. My adaptation is distinctive as it it is has a clear connection with the mass media for information, entertainment and opinions that are clear cut and interesting. My film is connected with popular culture and quite negative at times with an overtone of realism and this can be seen in the main characters and the relationships they build.

Storyboard A Significant Scene This first shot is a close up of the scene, where John Reese in in the train and looking depressed as he is thinking of his past life. This shot is a side shot and also established the rest of the rest of the train and it is still focused on Reese. This is a close up shot of Reese putting his hand over his face, trying to forget his past and all the people he has killed. This shot explores his current state of mind, when he realises he can’t take any more and the audience can clearly see that from the facial expression.

Feasibility My new adaption is very easily achievable as similar big Hollywood movies have been made, on the same scale with a similar concept, which have been successful at the box office. This new adaption is very achievable and affordable for movie studios are buying in to this idea especially if they have been very successful early on and have a strong audience as long as they keep the integrity of the original series it can definitely be accomplished.
