 Membrane technology is a new multi-disciplinary high- technology. It is recognized as one of the most important and promising technology in 21st century.  The new Membrane technologies and technics are constantly being invented, application areas are expanding, and profits of membrane separation industry can reach to 100%.

Membrane Technology  In 21st century, China's Membrane industry will be focused on the areas of water resources development, water treatment, gas separation, gas purification, recovery of useful materials and human health, to establish new industrial technology, energy saving technology, environmental friendly technology and new bio-engineering technology.  By 2020, China will be powerful in membrane industry, producing about 1/10 of total output value of the world's membrane industry.

Membrane Production Base Membrane production base is planed to be 1,000 Mu (67 hectares) in the first phase of Science and Technology Park, mainly includes medical care, new energy, environmental protection, marine, water treatment and other areas of membrane products. Guide and promote the development of existing membrane enterprises. * There are five universities located in Hi-Tech Zone, including Shandong University Weihai Campus, Harbin Institute of Technology (Weihai), Shandong College of Pharmacy, Weihai Vocational (Technical) College, and Shandong Maritime College. *We established Shandong University Biotechnology Center, Harbin Institute of Technology (Weihai) International Microelectronics Center, Song Jian Institute of Science and technology, Harbin Institute of Technology Science and industrial Technology Research Institute, Weihai Branch and other public R & D platform. * we also set up more than 60 Institutes including Computer Application, marine biology, smart technology, energy and environment, electrochemistry, auto parts, etc. *Currently, there are seven post-doctoral research stations, three academician workstations, more than 60 research institutes Personnel and Technical Conditions

 two national test center, two national laboratories in carbon fiber and medical equipment, four provincial level laboratories, and over one hundred technical centers and public service testing platforms.  Marine Science and Technology College of Harbin Institute of Technology (Weihai) was awarded the "National International Science and Technology Cooperation Base", and it is identified as “Marine Engineering Materials and Processing Technology International Joint Research Centre”; Mr. Changlu Gao is a PhD supervisor from that institution, and he used to study in the USA. He is now dedicated in the field of membrane material preparation and modification.  Marine College of Shandong University (Weihai) also has membrane-associated chemistry and pharmacy major. "International Biological Research and Development Center" was established relying on Shandong University School to engage research and development in membrane materials application and other aspects.  It was established in Harbin Institute of Technology (Weihai) in October  Based on "Urban Water Resources (North) National Engineering Research Center", it was focused on applications of membrane technology research and strategic directions.  Located in Weihai, it serves Weihai, as well as the entire Shandong province and northern region, to promote the application and development of new technologies and products in local Membrane industry.  It was co-composed by the Italian Academy of Sciences, the Italian Membrane Technology Research Center and Marine Science and Technology College of Harbin Institute of Technology (Weihai).  The purpose is to conduct technical exchanges, train professionals with membrane technology and to apply the technology to production fields. China - EU Membrane Technology Application Seminar  The seminar was organized by the Department of International Cooperation, Provincial Science and Technology Department and Weihai city.  It has been successfully held nine times since  A total of ten thousand experts and business representatives attended the event. Over 100 technical problems were solved by over 100 foreign experts; 30 scientific and technological achievements were obtained.  It became an important platform for the international forefront of membrane technology, and also made a positive contribution to promote the application and development of membrane technology.
