Greeting Task On your post it note you need to write a quiz style question based on our learning from last lesson. When you have written your question, come and stick it onto the whiteboard.

Should more inclusive words be used about God? Learning Objective: We will be able to answer the question: ‘Should more inclusive words be used about God?’ I can Explore two alternative words for God that are more inclusive. I can Assess the strengths and weaknesses of these words. I can Evaluate which words are best at helping a believer understand God. What does the word ‘inclusive’ mean? Why is there a problem with the words He, King and Father? What does the word ‘inclusive’ mean? Why is there a problem with the words He, King and Father?

Synonym Challenge Half of the class will be given to the word Father and the other half the word King. You have 30 seconds to think of as many alternative words (synonyms) for this as you can. watch?v=e32kaa9TzeE

Strengths and Weaknesses An alternative word for Father could be Parent and an alternative word for King could be Ruler. Use pages in your text book and come up with at least two strengths and weaknesses for either the word Parent or Ruler. You will be sharing your ideas with the rest of the class.

Past Exam Question ‘Believers should refer to God as ‘President’ rather than as ‘King’. Do you agree? 6 marks. You are going to work in groups of 4 and each be given a piece of sugar paper with a circle in the middle. You will have 5 minutes in silence to write down possible answers/points/examples for this question outside of the circle. You will then have 5 minutes to share your ideas with the rest of your group and as a group you will decide which ideas to put inside the circle to use in your exam answer.

Past Exam Question ‘Believers should refer to God as ‘President’ rather than as ‘King’. Do you agree? 6 marks. You will each be given a loyalty card. Every time you complete something from the loyalty card you will get a stamp. If you complete the first row, you will get Green If you complete both rows, you will get a Gold and a prize. Remember to use the mark scheme to help you.

You have written an introduction sentence explaining what the problem is. Masculine/Inclusive language. You have used the words from the question to start your points. You have given one argument for using the word king. You have given an example to support your points. You have given your own opinion. You have linked back to the question at the end of each point to summarise it. You have given one argument for using the word President. I have checked through my work for spelling, grammar and punctuation and have made changes in green pen. Miss Bullivant’s Loyalty Card

Room 101 Before you leave today, you need to choose one word for God to go in the Room 101 bin. You need to have a reason why this is your least favourite word for God and why it deserves to go in the Room 101 bin.
