Introduction  Rotating your tires is one of the easiest and most essential maintenance measures you can perform in order to keep your car in the best condition possible.  It keeps tires from wearing down unevenly and reduces wheel vibration.  Tires should be rotated every 3,000 to 5,000 miles. I recommend rotating your tires every time you change your oil.

Materials  Jack  Four (4) Jack Stands  Torque Wrench  Lug-Nut Wrench  Shop Towel

Process  Step 1 – Loosen all lug-nuts on each wheel. ○ Un-screw each lug-nut 1 to 2 times so that when you get the tire in the air, the tire will not fall off the lug.

Process  Step 2 – Jack vehicle up and place on jack stands. ○ Carefully place jack under specified jacking points at each corner of the vehicle (use owner manual to find specific points). Raise vehicle until the jack stand can be safely place under car. Then, lower car onto the stand.

Process  Step 3 – Remove lug-nuts completely and remove tires from lugs. ○ Be careful when removing the lug-nuts, do not strip the threads of the lugs. Do not lose any lug-nuts, all are needed in order to secure the tire to your car.

Process  Step 4 – Rotate tires to specified new position on the vehicle. ○ Use the following diagram in order to find the correct location for the tire that was removed and place it on the lugs.

Process  Step 5 – Replace lug-nuts and tighten with hand until snug. ○ The lug-nuts should be put on in the order specified below to ensure an even distribution of torque on all lugs.

Process  Step 6 – Lower car to ground with jack. ○ Be careful when jacking the car up. Be sure to remove the jack stands from underneath the car before completely placing the car on the ground.

Process  Step 7 – Tighten all lugs nuts to 25 foot- pounds using the torque wrench. ○ Set the torque wrench 25 ft-lbs and repeat the pattern used when hand tightening from before. After 100 miles of driving, re-check the lug-nuts and re-torque if necessary.

Conclusion  Rotating you tires is very simple and can be done with just one hour of your time. It will help get all the mileage out of a set of tires that you can and will make your car ride very smooth.
