Program Description This is an academic full year first grade class for 6 and 7 year olds. This is a 6 hour class that the students attend daily throughout the year. The curriculum is based on the Utah State Core Curriculum for the First Grade. The class is located in an Elementary School in the State of Utah and is a mainstream classroom being taught in English with a certified ESL teacher. The objective of the class is to teach all children the knowledge and background that they will need to advance into the second grade and in to their future education. These students have access to text books, dictionaries, story/picture books, media, technology, hands on activities and materials.

Student Description Student levels are the equivalent to the United States and the State of Utah standards for this age/grade level. The class has 20 students in the age group of 6 and 7. Eight of the students are native born to a variety of foreign countries and speak the language of their country. These students range from mid- novice to lower intermediate in the English Language Learners Program. They attend 5 hours in the regular English speaking first grade classroom and one hour in an English Second Language class daily.

Student Description The goal for all students is to gain the education in the levels of this grade to further their education and move to the next level of second grade.
