STEPS FOR MULTIPLYING A 2-DIGIT NUMBER BY ANOTHER 2-DIGIT NUMBER With Regrouping

Multiply with Regrouping STEP 1: Find the number in the ones position in the second 2-digit number of the problem and underline it.

EXAMPLE: X 33

STEP 2: Multiply the number you underlined by the ones digit and tens digit of the first two-digit number. Don’t forget to regroup as needed! Write your answer in ROW1.

EXAMPLE: X33 ROW ROW 2

STEP 3: Write a zero in the ones position of ROW 2 of your answer.

EXAMPLE: X 33 X 33 ROW ROW2 0

STEP 4: Find the number in the tens place in the same 2-digit number where you underlined the ones place of the problem and draw a box around it.

X 3 3 ROW ROW2 0 EXAMPLE: 46 46

STEP 5: Multiply the number that you just drew a box around by all the numbers on the top row of the problem, starting with the ones place. Don’t forget to regroup as needed! Write your answers in ROW 2 of your answer.

X 33 X 33 ROW ROW EXAMPLE:

STEP 6: Add ROWS 1 and 2 in your answer.

EXAMPLE: X 33 X 33 1 ROW  Partial Product ROW  Partial Product
