Presentation transcript:

1. Handouts: * New Independent Reading Charts 2. Homework: * Read an AR book daily and record progress on chart * Have a SUPER week! 3. Assignments Due: None 4. A challenge: Years ago, one of my classes at SCAPA temporarily lost the opportunity for ongoing Treasure Chest drawings. It happened after the very first drawing. But fortunately, they figured out what was so offensive and took steps to correct the problem. Can you guess why they almost didn’t get any more Treasure Chest drawings?

Outcomes: 1. Define these lit terms: Historical fiction, credible characters, anthropomorphism, imagery, foreshadowing, simile, inference, idiom, figurative language, text features, theme, moral, predict. 2. Define these power verbs: Demonstrate, define, identify, distinguish, analyze, evaluate, explain, summarize, examine, state. 3. Apply your knowledge by identifying examples of the following within a given text: anthropomorphism, imagery, foreshadowing, simile, inference. 4. Demonstrate your ability to follow directions and adhere to testing procedures.

Prepare for today’s test: 1) Take everything off from your desk, except for a pen. 2) Place your AR book under your chair. 3) If you don’t have an AR book, borrow one from Mrs. D now. 4) Remain seated and maintain zero voice the entire period. 5) When you finish, check your work. Then place the answer key under the test on your desk. 6) With Mrs. D’s approval, you may do one of the following: * Read your AR book. * Read a book from the Cove (please return it to the same shelf). * Take an AR test in the computer mini-lab (must have 10 minutes available and a lab TA must be available to monitor you).
