ADRENAL GLANDS BY MARISSA AND CHLOE

WHERE IS IT? The adrenal glands are located on top of the kidneys, in the abdominal area. When you get a rush of adrenaline, this is why you feel it rush near your stomach.

WHAT IS A HORMONE? Hormones are chemicals in your body, when they are released, they slowly make certain things occur. For example, certain hormones can trigger: Growth and development Metabolism – how your body gets energy from the food you eat Sexual function Reproduction Mood

HOW DO HORMONES WORK? Endocrine glands secrete these hormones. They then travel in your bloodstream to organs and tissues.. The time it takes for each of these hormones to take effect can differ. Hormones only target the area of the body that is made for. In other words they target specific cells. Although they can also effect the cells around them too. Depending on the reaction, the time can differ. For example, if the reaction needs at be an immediate, it would be a muscle response. If the reaction is slow, then it could be something like puberty.

CRUSHING’S SYNDROME Crushing syndrome is when the adrenal glands create too many hormones. Thankfully this is rare. This is when the body has too much exposure over a long period of time to cortisol, which is a hormone that your adrenal gland makes. Some symptoms include: Upper body density Thin arms and legs Sever fatigue and weakness in the muscles High blood pressure High blood sugar Easy bruising Certain things can trigger this syndrome. The most common reason is from over use of corticosteroid medications. These are used to cure things such as asthma, rashes or lupus (inflammation of tissues and muscles). Lupus

THE NERVOUS SYSTEM AND THE ENDOCRINE SYSTEM SimilaritiesDifferences They both send messages to change the recepient The endocrine uses hormones with chemicals to send messages The nervous system uses nerves through electrical signals to send messages The endocrine system is very slow, it can months to years to change to recipient, whereas the nervous system is almost instantaneous.

ANIMATION ANALYSIS This video shows a clear example of adrenal glands in a real life situation. The video demonstrates this in a short and punchy video. The video shows how adrenalin takes effect when running a race.

HORMONES PRODUCED BY THE ADRENAL GLANDS OestrogenProgesteroneCortisol Oestrogen is the most used hormone in the female. It s secured by the ovaries and is responsible for reproduction. Progesterone prevents certain allergies in which hormones play a role. The hormone produced by the cortisol is called the stress hormones. It creates the feeling of stress.
