The Scientific Method Practice Lab

Scientific Methods of Inquiry Scientific Inquiry Process: Observe Ask questions Hypothesis formation Share what is learned

What you need to do? OBSERVE – what happens when you put ¼ of and Alkaseltzer Tablet in a film canister filled ½ full of water **Time the reaction! ASK THE QUESTION – why did this happen MAKE A HYPOTHESIS – What would make the reaction speed up or slow down to ensure that your top pops at exactly 12s OR 42s. CONCLUDE – what have you learned and what could be improved next time

HOME WORK!!  Write a lab report that details your experiment. Include the following components: Purpose (why are you doing this) Hypothesis (What are you testing) Materials (what you used) Procedure (detailed step by step outline of how you did your experiment) Observations (what you saw) Analysis (explanation of why things happened the way they did) Conclusion (ties your analysis to your hypothesis)
