Cross-Expert Discussion Brainstorm and Develop Proposed Activities

What is a cross-program activity that we can engage in that could become the signature for the CEHS?

Poverty Homelessness Integration into all programs after assessment of needs School-based collaboration and partnerships School-to-prison pipeline Nutrition Diabetes and chronic disease management Mental health Involving spiritual leaders in the community and Touro

Next steps… Fact finding… Topic: Poverty in Solano County – Jim: The Solano County 2013 children’s report card to focus on poverty (addresses the many data points on the issue…and homelessness is addressed (types of homelessness (sheltered/unsheltered) – Homelessness Task Force – Directors will facilitate volunteers from each program – TF will investigate this focus; data gathering, grants, etc – report back on March 6 CEHS meeting

Suggestions on going forward… Priorities: Task force (priority dependent; committed to launching a college-wide specific focus) Subgroups of “poverty” to address the different areas of the problem Collaborate with the community groups/ organizations to determine HOW we will join forces Engage families and communities (health centers/ family resources centers / teen centers / FOCI: Poverty; school-based collaborations/resource guides for teachers in schools; Diabetes prevention and additional health services/screenings/ outreach prevent prison / youth and schools who are integral in reaching adults / homelessness and its impact

Table 1 Homelessness / poverty What is the problem and all of its facets of the problems Homelessness of school children (health/behavioral needs) What’s being done: grants available to address the problem Thinking: making Touro a resource center for homelessness and poverty
