How to Fight Childhood Obesity By Yanira Guzman 11/30/2010

Childhood Obesity  Childhood obesity is on the Rise in the United States. If Parents would Control there children eating habits there would be less Obesity. 1 – Healthy Eating Habits 2 – Limiting Screen time 3 – Physical Activity

Getting Good Eating Habits  Eating 5 servings of fruit and vegetables every day  Fresh organic is the best, frozen and canned are good but NEED to STAY away from Fried Veggies/ Fruit  1 Fist = 1 serving  Need to have ½ of plate = Veggies/Fruit

Limit Screen Time  Screen time should be 2 hours or less  Avoid putting a T.V. in the bedroom  Avoid eating in front of the T.V.

Increase Physical Activity  Keep them in sports such as soccer, football and also indoor sports basketball, dancing  Play active games like jump rope to music or hula hoop  Have your child walk or bike to school

Conclusion  Childhood obesity is on the rise in the United States. If parents would control there children’s eating habits there would be less obesity.  When parents change and control what there child eats, limit screen time, and increasing physical activity it can reduce child obesity.

Call to Action  It is important to be a role model to your children in having healthy eating habits.  It is important for parents to control children's eating habits, limit the screen time to less than 2 hours daily and increase their physical activity to decrease childhood obesity by the age of two.
