The Ten Components of the Dick and Carey Model:  Identify Instructional Goals  Conduct Instructional Analysis  Analyze Learners and Contexts  Write Performance Objectives  Develop Assessment Instruments  Develop Instructional Strategy  Select Instructional Materials  Design and Conduct Formative Evaluation of Instruction  Revise Instruction  Design and Conduct Summative Evaluation (Dick, Carey & Carey, 2005.) Dick and Carey ModelDick and Carey Model - "The Dick and Carey model prescribes a methodology for designing instruction based on a reductionist model of breaking instruction down into smaller components. Instruction is specifically targeted on the skills and knowledge to be taught and supplies the appropriate conditions for the learning of these outcomes."

 Phase 1- Assess Instructional Goals This phase conduct needs assessments and establish what learners will be able to do when the lesson is complete.  Phase 2-Conduct Instructional Analysis This phase develop step by step instructions for the learner to reach.  Phase 3-Analyze Learners and Contexts This phase explore abilities, and thoughts, and the setting the learner will use.

 Phase 4- Write Performance Objectives Develop detailed objectives the learner will be able to do after lessons is complete.  Phase 5- Develop Assessment Instruments Create test to assess learners.  Phase 6- Develop Instructional Strategy Incorporate instructional learning strategies such as graphic organizers charts or lesson outlines or any instructional strategy that is relevant to the lesson.

 Phase 7- Select Instructional Materials This phase is choosing the instructional material that will be used such as textbook, and teacher guided material.  Phase 8- Conduct Formative Evaluation Find out how the students feel about the lesson/instruction so that improvement and changes can be incorporated in the next lesson.  Phase 9- Revise Instruction This phase is where any and all revisions can be made, therefore trying to reduce any problems that the students will have attaining the learning goal.  Phase 10- Conduct Summative Evaluation This last phase determines and summarize the development of the learner.

 The Dick and Carey model is learner center.  The Dick and Carey model separate steps into smaller parts to be more effective.  It Emphasizes concise instructional development for the learner.  It is used to teach both skills and knowledge to the learner.
