Chapter 2: The Lens

Focal Length is the distance between the center of a lens and the film plane when focused at infinity

Different Focal Lengths have different Angles of View

Aperture = Focal Length / Diameter Aperture controls the amount of light entering the camera & Depth of Field

Depth of Field = the depth of the Plane of Sharp Focus (The plane on which the camera is focused or sharp)

Bokeh is the result of a very wide aperture

Wider depth of field = more focus

Plane of Sharp Focus can vary depending on your Depth of Field

Opening Up = More light Stopping Down = Less light

Plane of Sharp Focus can vary depending on your Depth of Field f/1.8 f/8 f/22

Use your Focusing Ring to set the Plane of Sharp Focus

Keep in mind, changing your aperture affects your light meter reading… 1/1000s

So when you change your aperture, you must also change your shutter speed 1/1000s 1/15s
