Working Group E Priority Substances, THIRD MEETING CMEP Geel – November participants : 15 MS and 2 stakeholders Issues: Tasks of the mandate-Progress

Working Group E Priority Substances, CMEP Task 3.1 B: Case studies on statistical methods for assessing compliance (MAC percentiles) A document has been elaborated: ILLUSTRATES THE OPTIONS FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT OF “L OOK - UP ” T ABLES IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE PROVISIONS OF THE ISO CONSIDERS HOW THESE OPTIONS WOULD WORK USING A SET OF CASE STUDY DATA PREPARED IN G ERMANY. DEADLINE: A RECOMMENDATION WILL BE PREPARED FOR THE NEXT MEETING OF WG E IN 2012 Task Chair: UK and DE

Working Group E Priority Substances, CMEP Task 3.1 C Case studies on implementation of QA/QC Directive Main objective of this task is to update WG E on the progress of implementation of the QA/QC directive as well as encountered difficulties on Member State scale. A draft report on QA/QC implementation has been prepared by France and discussed in Geel; is based on the answers that 14 MS have given to the questionnaire. Deadline: A Report will be finalised and sent to the WG E in 2012 Task chair: France

Working Group E Priority Substances, CMEP Task 3.1 D Comparison of monitoring approaches among EU Member State Laboratories (CM on-site Exercises). An Interlaboratory study on passive sampling of emerging pollutants organised by Norman and JRC has been performed Task chair: JRC+Norman

Working Group E Priority Substances, Interlaboratory calibration study in 2011 present variability in data by comparing results from various passive samplers sent by participating laboratories exposed to water at a single (reference) site Target substances: –polar pesticides - 19 participants –Pharmaceuticals – 17 participants –steroid hormones – 15 participants –Triclosan - 8 participants –bisphenol A - 11 participants –PFOA, PFOS - 8 participants –PBDE -16 participants 30 participants from commercial, academic and regulatory laboratories Silicone strips CONTACT:

Working Group E Priority Substances, Dissemination of results 3 rounds, May-August – a workshop will be organised to disseminate results.

Working Group E Priority Substances, CMEP Task 3.1 E Status report on the availability of laboratory intercomparisons, reference materials and other tools of quality control. The activity shall inform WG E about the availability of suitable analytical quality control measures such as laboratory intercomparisons and (certified) reference materials. A long table (in total 77 pages) with certified reference materials has been prepared by JRC/IRMM for all the existing PS + other substances ( water, sediment and biota) and has been uploaded in CIRCA in the folder of CMEP. Task chairs : JRC/IRMM and Italy.

Working Group E Priority Substances, CMEP Task 3.1 F Report on progress of execution of Mandate M 424 on standardisation for existing PS and new standardization needs for new priority substances. The activity M 424 has made useful progresses. Work on analytical methods for the new priority substances- Draft Table prepared by JRC has been updated. Task Chairs: Belgium (flemish Env Agency) and JRC

Working Group E Priority Substances, CMEP Tasks 3.2 A/3.2 B: Summary reports on research dedicated to the investigation of emerging pollutants on a European or river-basin specific level. Link with Norman Activities Watch List Task Chairs: Norman + JRC

Working Group E Priority Substances, CMEP Task 3.2 C: Technical report on the use of alternative effect-based monitoring tools. A meeting of the DG has been held in Dubendorf (Switzerland) the 8 th November 2011 A second draft of the technical guidance has been elaborated by the drafting group and has been discussed in dubendorf. Also NL will participate to the drafting activity. The progress of the activity has been discussed in Geel Next Meeting of the DG will be in Dubendorf the 9 th of May The Guidance will be approved by CMEP in June and then sent to WG E and SCG in 2012 Task chairs: Sweden (chair) and Italy

Working Group E Priority Substances, CMEP- NEXT MEETING ISPRA-ITALY Tentative Date: 19 th June

Working Group E Priority Substances, THANK YOU !
